Welcome Winter Expo 2018

On Thursday, Nov 29th, the New Paltz Climate Action Coalition along with Interfaith Earth Action, held the Welcome Winter Expo at St. Joeseph’s Parish Hall. It was a great community experience that combined environmental education, activism, as well as fun! The night included demonstrations on how to easily and affordably winterize your home for increased energy efficiency. There were opportunities to learn about recycling, free energy audits, alternative energy sources and much more!

Community members were able to turn their old t-shirts into reusable tote bags for a fun way to reduce plastic waste. In addition, there was a station to make your own tea bags with personalized recipes to keep you feeling well all winter. Kids had fun by making their own holiday ornaments out of cookie cutters and their own drawings. Adults had the opportunity to learn about switching to solar, hydro-power or geothermal for their homes, as well as finding out more about local issues like changes in recycling policy and how to get involved in the campaign against GlidePath, a fracked gas power plant proposed just 20 miles from New Paltz.

Climate change is a serious issue that gets worse the longer action is not taken! We hope everyone had fun but most importantly learned how to reduce energy use waste, reuse items that would typically be thrown out, and how to recycle properly so that nothing gets thrown away. We hope to see you at our next event!
